This week we have a new beautiful arrangement for the community. A short Q & A with our spotlighted guest.
Introducing our brand new "Blooming Business Woman" Samantha Chatman of ABC 7 Chicago News TV Personality/Journalist.
What is your name? Samantha Chatman
Describe your professional field(s) and what are your titles? News Reporter and Anchor for ABC 7 Chicago
How long have you been in your field(s)? 9 years
When did you know that you wanted to go into television? My dad, Sam Chatman, is a well-known DJ in Chicago. He introduced me to the world of broadcasting when I was about 5 years old. From there, my parents got me involved in public speaking events. In high school, they signed me up for a broadcast class and the rest was history!
What was it like starting out? My first job was exciting yet challenging. I was a “one man band,” meaning I had to shoot my own video, write and edit my own content…all on a very tight deadline! This taught me how to multitask, pivot and think on my feet. I also did weather in my first job with very little weather experience. I did it all, and I’m grateful for the experience in Peoria, Illinois. I owe a lot to that station.
What is the most exciting part of investigations to you? Investigations are exciting when I’m able to help get results. People come to me oftentimes when they’re in very bad financial situations and feel like they’ve been ripped off. It makes me smile when I help someone get their money back, or get a favorable response from a company that’s willing to work with a viewer. It’s a good feeling.
What is your theme music (song/artist/etc.) that gets you in the mood to attack your day? “Just Fine” by Mary J. Blidge, because no matter how hard my days can be sometimes, I’m a child of GOD and everything in the end will be JUST FINE.
We’ve heard that you are a “Foodie”. What is your favourite food? Yes, I’m a foodie! I love all foods: pizza, burgers, pasta, Indian cuisine, soul food, you name it!
What does Women Empowerment mean to you? Women Empowerment is about lifting each other as we climb and supporting your sister when she’s down and needs a reminder that God is on her side. I am blessed to have women in my life, especially my mom, who uplift and inspire me to keep pushing and striving for more.
