The Alarm clock blares each morning, 6:00a.m. religiously. She pulls herself out of bed to make breakfast for the one’s she calls her own. And for the Children and her husband, she’s dedicated all of her mornings to them every day even before she has pulled a comb through her hair. Always remembering her Great Nana’s words “A Woman’s job is never finished, A Wife’s and Mother’s job is never-ending.” She follows that statement as if it were law and would never waiver, for this is her sworn duty. She wakes her “bundles of joy” up with a forehead kiss and the sweet smell of pancakes. The man she’s made vowels to through sickness and health, clothes are laid out neatly pressed with care. She is her family’s backbone. She gets the children ready for school and makes sure her husband has everything he needs to attack his workday. Finally, it’s time to get herself together for her career. Brews some coffee, runs a shower, and 10 mins later she is off to the races. Semi-truck smoke fills the air on the interstate, she slams on the breaks due to rush hour traffic as she struggles to apply her lipstick. Coffee spillage in the cup holder, when a lackadaisical driver merged the lane, “Watch where you’re going” she screams swerving to avoid collision. “I am going to be late” she thinks as she taps the steering wheel as if she could speed up time by rhythmic anxious finger thumping. Just in the nick of time. Scurrying toward the Glassdoor’s of the second house she dominates, the workplace. A Gladiator of the market. Meeting after meeting holding the home team in place. She is the equalizer. Fierce, determined, and worthy she is. But even more exhausted. Heavy is the crown. Hours and hours of looking through paperwork and going over the details of new ventures. There is a knock at her door. Giant 5foot Long Stem Roses enter the room so beautifully spread you could not see the man wheeling them into the office. Flushed with excitement and a touch of confusion she searched for a card to intel where this unexpected arrangement came. “Dear Mom & David’s loving wife, as busy as your days are you never cease to care and nurture no matter how tired or wired you are. This is just a token to express. We love and appreciate you. Love you from here to the Moon. Sincerely yours, Dad and The children”. Tears filled her eyes with a joy she couldn’t explain. All that hard work noticed by the ones who matter most. An everlasting smile stamped upon her face; anxious to make it back home to her family. It’s the little things that count, and they are truly worth every smile.
